Íris Susana Pires Pereira

I hold a degree in the Teaching of Portuguese and English (University of Minho, 1996), a Master's degree in Portuguese Linguistics and Didactics (Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, 2000) and a PhD in Child Studies – Specialization Portuguese Language (University of Minho, 2008). I am currently Assistant Professor at the Institute of Education and member of the Centre for Research in Education (CIED) at the University of Minho (UMinho, Portugal). 
The teaching and learning of multiliteracies, the initial and ongoing teacher education and the teaching of Portuguese as second language are my main areas of study. I have published in several international journals such as Literacy, Interacting with computers, Language and Education, Pedagogies, Research Papers in Education, Language, Pedagogy and Culture, Changing English, L1, Teacher Development, Perspectiva, Caleidoscóipio, and Educação e Pesquisa and I have co-edited The Routledge Handbook of Digital Literacies in Early Childhood (2019). I have been deputy Editor of Revista Portuguesa de Educação since May 2019.

I am a member of the team developing the Curricular Reform of the Basic Education in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, under the auspices of UNICEF, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the World Bank. I am also involved in the development of the curriculum for an Early Years Education degree in East-Timor. Besides, I am currently coordinating - and teaching in - a MA course on Primary Education Methodology (Specialization area: Portuguese Language Teaching in Primary Education) at the ISCED Benguela, Angola
